Project: Port Kembla Surf Life Saving Club Upgrade

Scope: Wollongong City Council upgrades to the Port Kembla Surf Life saving club included a new 2 tiered block retaining wall to replace the old sandstone rock wall. 

The new wall would provide more usable flat area for use by the surf lifesaving club. Positioned on the coast and very close to the beach, the ground was predominantly sand making the excavation for the new retaining wall close to the existing building a high risk operation, with the threat of the building being undermined during excavation. 

GC Civil was the preferred contractor for this project as we could provide the confidence council required to ensure of a successful & trouble free project.

Project Details: 

  • Demolish and remove existing retaining wall
  • Identify, contain and suitably dispose of buried asbestos rubbish
  • Bulk excavation for new retaining wall, cartage and disposal of excess fill
  • Supply and construct Adbri Allan AB Vertical Block wall up to 1.8m high
  • Coat block work wall with anti-Graffiti clear protectant coating system
  • Form and pour concrete kerb adjacent access way
  • Supply and install 316 grade stainless steel handrail balustrading 
  • Construct sandstone stairs from reserve area down to beach
  • Supply and lay turf and disestablish
